Maths club – mobility to Lousada

On 29th, 30th of April and 1st and 2nd of May of 2011 a group of 16 students and 3 teachers from Escola I.E.S nº1 Ribeira is going to visit Escola Secundária de Lousada to accomplish the first mobilities of the Maths Club that connects Lousada and Ribeira. During those days, students are going to have the opportunity to socialize and participate in many activities, namely games and visits.

On April 29th there will be a Maths peddy-paper in the town of Lousada. This contest is going to have, not only a mathematical branch, but it is also going to approach questions related to Portuguese culture. The teams will have two Portuguese students and two Spanish students, chosen from the ones who had a better performance in the preliminary competitions which took place at their schools.

The purpose of this activity is to develop Maths skills, especially strategies to solve problems and challenges, get to know aspects of the Portuguese culture and create friendship bonds among students and teachers. For this reason, Sports Club and Eco Club are going to be involved in these activities as well.

On April 30th theses students are going to participate in a school trip to Conímbriga and Coimbra, where they are going to have the opportunity to visit the University of Coimbra, Quinta das Lágrimas, as well as the ruins of Conímbriga, enlarging this way, their cultural horizons.

On May 1st, in the morning, the students are going to visit the museum and gardens of Serralves in Oporto city; in the afternoon they are going to have the opportunity to deepen their mathematical knowledge by participating in a workshop of isometrics organized by the Visionarium, in Santa Maria da Feira.

In the morning of the last day of works (May 2nd) all the students are going to solve jigsaws, puzzles, origami and they are going to be involved in a series of funny and educational activities that make Mathematics a much funnier science.

This partnership is going to continue on the 26th, 27th and 28th May 2011 when students from Lousada are going to travel to Escola I.E.S nº1 of Ribeira.
