Heerde/Munich Meeting in January - Article of the German Student Stephanie

Public Panel Discussion with our friends from the Netherlands

The meeting of our Dutch partner school and and us lasted three days, so we had only a short time to become acquainted with the guests from the Netherlands. But withal we had a very good time. We were a group of about 20 students. At the first day we, the German students, had a lot of to prepare so we met in the morning, made the room ready and talked about the next three days with our teachers. At 11.30 am the Dutch students arrived with their teachers at our school. Mr. Schicker showed them our school building and explained our school system. After that we had a round of introductions. At first everybody was very shy but bit by bit we talked more and more.

We ate with our guests and the members of the public panel discussion “Business Ethics”. After that we went to the public panel discussion. The participants of the discussion were Dr. Jochen Ostheimer (Lecture of Social Ethics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich), Willi Pfaff (CEO and owner of VollCorner Biomarkt GmbH Munich), Marlen Rürup (Senior Anylst of oekom research AG, Munich) and Nina Burmeister (Head of Strategic Controlling of Marc O’Polo International GmbH, Stephanskirchen). The anchorman was a journalist of the Süddeutsche Zeitung called Sibylle Haas. The topic of the discussion was: How can one think and act sustainably?

Thereafter we got a guided tour through Munich with Mr. Grossmann. He showed us amongst others the Frauenkirche, the city hall, the Odeonsplatz, the Marienplatz and the Hofbräuhaus. Afterwards we had the option to eat at the Hofbräuhaus with the whole Comenius team.

At the next day we resumed the discussion with the Dutch students. We talked about the participant of the public panel discussion and their different opinions. Then we had to go into groups and write a “Steckbrief” for each participant. When we finished our work, we gave short presentations for the other members of the Comenius project. At 12 o’clock we went to our school cafeteria and had lunch there. In the afternoon a few of us German students went to the top of the tower “Alter Peter” with the Dutch guests. We had a great view, because the weather was awesome. The rest of the afternoon the Dutch students went shopping. In the evening we met again at the Paulaner brewery. There we had an interesting guided tour through the brewery. We were able to taste very young beer. The most of us were really surprised about the different taste. We left the teachers alone after a delicious dinner and went to the bar “Die Bank”. We had a very nice stay there, had fun and talked a lot. At the last day we finished our project for Turin and discussed about the final meeting in Spain. During the three days we made a lot of friends, learned a lot about the Dutch school system and of course we improved our English.
